Self Care Ideas

First it was #mindfulness, then it was #hygge, now the buzzword of the moment seems to be #selfcare. In no way am I criticising this – I actually think these “trends” that should be common sense are beneficial – it’s kind of sad that enjoying pleasant things and taking proper care of ourselves is fashionable rather than something everyone just does. But if we need hashtags, magazine headlines and blog posts to remind us to take a step back, switch off and do something we enjoy and makes us feel good, then so be it – as long as we actually do it.

Self Care is different for everyone, but there are some basic things that everyone should be doing to take care of their bodies and minds, for overall health and wellbeing. However, I suspect many people (myself included) neglect the most basic things:

  1. Eating regular, healthy meals.
  2. Getting enough sleep.
  3. Doing, and enjoying, exercise.

Happy Easter everyone! 🐰🐣🥚

I mentioned in an earlier post that I would make a whole post about Easter themed baking ideas. Before I do, I’d just like to point out that I’m having serious difficulty doing Easter baking here in Mexico because Mini Eggs do not exist here. I suppose it’s a good thing that the true significance of the holiday is being maintained and it hasn’t become commercial like it has in other countries, but that doesn’t change the fact that I want some Easter chocolate! No eggs or bunnies anywhere to be seen. Yesterday I made chocolate Easter nests (you know the ones) with peanut M&Ms for eggs but it’s just not the same. 😔

But, I’m sure elsewhere in the world everyone is eagerly cooking up some yummy, prettily decorated Easter treats. Here are some ideas! Continue reading

Springtime Crafting

When I was a child I used to make things. All. The. Time. I never really lost my love for making art and crafts (and a huge mess) but as I’m sure many people find, adult life kind of takes over and we have other responsibilities that we have to take care of before we put time into our hobbies. Usually when I finish working I don’t want to do anything except sit at home in my pyjamas, eating and watching Netflix, but guess what? Now I’m a primary school teacher. I have two classrooms full of 7-9 year olds who I’m sure love making things as much as I did when I was their age. And, it’s spring, coming up to Easter, so I’m scouring the internet for ideas of fun, crafty things we can do. I found a few that I think are great for both kids and grown-ups (and people in the weird in-between stage like me.) I hope I’ll get to try some of them in the classroom, and some of the others during the Easter holidays!

Dear Crafters…

untitled-design

This post is dedicated to my good friend Alice who has been hard at work creating her own business! Her online store finally launched a few days ago and I am IN LOVE with her gorgeous yarns and knitting and crochet accessories, so I just had to try and spread the word.

A while ago on my old blog I wrote about how happy I was that knitting and crocheting are back in fashion and I still am. Crafts are such a simple and universal pleasure, even if you think you’re not good at them, everyone likes cutting and sticking and everyone can learn how to knit a simple pattern. And, everyone needs a break from staring at a computer or TV screen to do something creative. That’s why I was so excited when Alice first told me about her plans to start up a craft company. What a great way to encourage people from all walks of life to come together and forget about the stresses of the modern world.
